After working in Guatemala for two years as a consultant for a local social enterprise in Nebaj, Quiché, I started meeting with artisan cooperatives in the area. Representatives explained their sales were suffering because of the lack of direct market access for their products.
The Maya Ixil [ee-sheel] region is far off the beaten tourist path, negatively affecting sales for artisan products.
Over the past two years, I have worked alongside Ixil weavers and artisans to design unique products that which are exported directly from the region, greatly increasing market share for Ixil artisans.
